The Open is Coming

Each year the CrossFit Games season starts off with the CrossFit Open. This is a worldwide competition created to give everyone an opportunity to measure themselves against hundreds of thousands of other competitors. For the first time ever there will be a scaled division which opens the competition up to nearly everyone. In the past, some workouts would leave people stuck if they couldn’t do a specific movement (i.e. chest-to-bar pullup). Now there really is no excuse – you should sign up for the open.

No you aren’t going to “win.” The point is to push yourself as hard as possible for those 5 workouts and get a real, honest measurement of where you stand. Remember, you must assess where you are, accept it and make a plan to improve. Willful ignorance is still ignorance and you can’t improve what you don’t measure.

The other nice side effect of competition is that it breeds excellence. You can see this nearly everywhere. Why is the gas station in the middle of nowhere Utah the worst damn gas station I’ve ever been to? Well, where else are you gonna go? Pushing yourself to the limit for a few workouts will give you a new appreciation for where your limits truly are and what’s holding you back from achieving more.

Why run your first 5k? Why climb a mountain or jump out a plane? Because doing something you’ve never done just might change your life. Or at the very least your perspective about what you can accomplish. In this case, you just have to sign up. You’re doing the work anyway…
