One More Step

Coming into a CrossFit gym can be an intimidating experience. You show up, look around and it looks nothing like any gym you’ve ever been to. Not-so subtle-differences are immediately apparent as well such as people introducing themselves to you, cheering for you to finish the workout and enjoying your successes with you.

So while it may be an intimidating place, it also changes lives. I get regular feedback from our members about losing 30 lbs, losing decades-old knee pain, finally being able to do a pull-up, etc. I love hearing these stories – it’s why I do what I do. All of these stories start with a first step – a commitment to try something new that is outside your comfort zone.

Continuing to re-draw your own boundaries is what makes life enjoyable. Eating the same thing, doing the same thing, all that routine behavior might cause you to think you’re easing anxiety but is that really true? Is mundane really fulfilling? Is watching TV while killing it on the treadmill really where you want to be? I suppose it’s better than crushing ho-hos on the couch but they’re about equals when it comes to mental stimulation.

When was the last time you tried something new? Played a new sport? Have you ever shot a gun, went mountain biking, skiing, learned to ride a skateboard, climbed a mountain? These are all things anyone can do. There’s a whole world out there with endless possibilities – even more so when you’re fit enough to enjoy them. All you have to do is take one more step…
