The 2016 CrossFit Open

The Open is the beginning of a global competition that culminates at the CrossFit Games where they name the fittest on earth. It’s one workout a week for 5 weeks done in the gym. I’ll save you the suspense – you’re not going to be on ESPN just as running a 5K won’t put you in the Olympics. But WINNING isn’t why people sign up for the Open.

At the end of the day you’re really just competing against yourself and I guarantee you will work harder than you ever have in a regular workout. You’ll also be encouraging others to do the same, and something inspiring about pushing beyond your preconceived limits. After all, the Open really is the essence of CrossFit – hard work, community and fun.

The Open workouts also serve as a benchmark for your fitness. You’ll be able to compare yourself not only against these specific workouts but also against the global masses. You might find that in Year 1 you finish in the 50th percentile but Year 2 puts you in the 70th. Being able to chart your progress globally is cool and not many sports allow for that.

You’re likely going to do the workouts anyway as they will be programmed every Friday. There’s a scaled division again this year so nearly everyone is capable of doing the workouts. If you haven’t signed up then you should do it! I promise you will not be disappointed…
