Thanksgiving GraceMed 5k

Let me start by saying that I am not a runner. I’m convinced there are two types of people in this world when it comes to running – those who can enjoy the serenity of the task and those that need headphones to get through the boredom that leaves you on the verge of death. I am certainly with the latter and pretty much refuse to run further 5k. I know we have several members that enjoy longer races, including marathons, and more power to you. I’m certainly not knocking it; it’s just you won’t find me signing up for anything like that… well ever.

I always do one official 5k per year and that’s the GraceMed 5k on Thanksgiving morning. I think the running makes me feel like it’s perfectly fine to gorge myself on pounds of turkey, sweet potato and pumpkin pie. The truth is I would do that anyway but the race beforehand does make me feel better about it. It also gives me a chance to try and improve my time each year as there’s only one shot to do it.

Not sure if I will improve this year because I’m back at lifting and frankly I find that a lot more enjoyable than running but I will sign up and run nonetheless and encourage you all to do so as well. We had a decent group do it last year and I’m sure they’d all tell you they had a good time. So if you’re in town, join us downtown on Thanksgiving morning for this event. And don’t give me the ole’ “gotta get the turkey ready” line. If you’re cooking it longer than two hours you’re probably drying it out worse than the turkey Cousin Eddy’s wife cooked in Christmas Vacation.
