Jerking With Your Elbows

Wanted to shoot a quick video on why I like to teach the push press and jerk variations with a high elbow or front rack technique. There are a lot of opinions about this and I’m sure a quick internet search will show alternate opinions of why one needs to jerk with their elbows down in order to move the maximum amount of weight.

The video explains my reasoning from a teaching perspective as well as explaining the carryover effect into other CrossFit workouts. But I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that Chad Vaughn jerks with his elbows high and he still holds the American Clean and Jerk record at 190kg. That’s 418 lbs for you ‘Mericans so if it’s good enough for him then it’s good enough for you…
